Sitges Pride Official Opening took place at the Hotel Calipolis with more than 100 invited guests, dignitaries, council members and press in attendance. The event, now in its 6th year, will attract more than 50,000 people to Sitges over 5 days from the 18th to the 22nd of June.

Quoting a special study conducted by the local council in conjunction with the University of Barcelona, President of AFGAL, (the association responsible for the production and promotion of pride,) Luis Enriquez made reference to the average spend per day per person during the event. Each guest will spend an average  of EUR 200 per day in Sitges making it one of the most important economic events to contribute to the local community.

Mr Enriquez also reminded guests of how important it is to continue to promote Sitges as a gay holiday destination internationally as world wide, cities, tourism organisations and governments are increasing their focus on the gay market.  He also noted significant accolades for Sitges in 2015 including special recognition by Lonely Planet for Sitges as being the in the top 5 gay destinations in the world and a CNN report citing Sitges as one of the best destinations for gay honeymooners, worldwide.
