Bears Week Sitges 2018 Dates confirmed

Bears Week Sitges has grown to become one of the biggest bear events in Europe! Last year saw a record, 5000+ bears attend the event over two weekends. Here are the answers to your most pressing questions about Bears Week!

What are the dates for Bears Week Sitges 2018?

The 2018 dates have been confirmed and will take place from the 1st to the 11th of September. The 11th is a holiday in Catalunya! Many guys will arrive a few days before! Hotels fill up fast, so book now to get the best rate.

What is the “Bear Village”?

The bear village on the seafront will open for the last 7 days of the event. The bear village is an open air bar complete with stage and music, right on the paseo, by the Mediterranean sea! It is located in the heart of Sitges , seconds from the bars, restaurants and hotels.

Where is “Bear Alley”?

Bear Alley is the nick name visitors to the event have given to the “Calle Joan Tarrida”, the main thoroughfare to the gay bars and popular bear venues including, El Horno (Popular for post beach drinks from 5pm), XXL, Bears Bar and more.

Is there a “Bear Beach”?

The most popular beach during Bears Week is “Balmins”. It is a nudist beach, about 15 minutes walk from the centre of Sitges and close to the Melia Hotel. It is probably the most popular day-time meeting point for all sorts of bears and chasers!

There are two other gay beaches in Sitges, one in the heart of the town, opposite the hotel Calipolis. It attracts a more “hipster-bear/twink/designer barbie” group! The third beach is “Playa del Muerto”.. it has a charming beach club and bar, but the beach is a little rocky! The main attraction is the forest behind the beach where bears play in the woods!

What is the “Walk of Shame”

Sin Street, the main “bear square” at Plz Industria and the street of Mont Roig all form one long “bear-walk” during the bear week. At the square you have the Parrots Terraces and Central bar and Summer lounge. With their forward-facing tables, bears and boys watch their fellow bears walk by! Some think of it as judgement square, but to be honest, its all good fun and the square gets packed up pretty quickly for post beach cocktails and of course the occasional stare!

What can I wear to the bear parties? Are there fetish or leather events?

Each year the Bear Week becomes more and more diverse. Some bemoan the fact that the event has grown so large and busy, but we think it still manages to maintain its friendly and unique atmosphere despite the crowds. Yes, you will find lots of shirtless and hairy buff guys wearing leather harnesses and boots! But they will be mixed in with cubs, chasers, sportswear fans, and more! It is a wide mix of tastes and ages! Just remember to be respectful. This is a village after all and the locals give over their beach-space willingly! So don’t trot around the streets naked and behave responsibly. Some nights do have themed events in the Village such as the White night, so go wild and use your imagination! The cowboy look was particularly poplar this year!

I am traveling on my own, any advice?

Many guys travel to Sitges Bears Week on their own, so, well.. you won’t be the only one! The event is quite warm and open, so just take a chance and say hello to guys during the day on the beach. Some amazing and long lasting friendships have been made during Bears Week and guys continue to reconnect each year!

Are there parties, tea dances?

During the daytime, the beach at Balmins is where you will find all the action! There are no bear pool parties or T Dances. All of the fun takes place during the beach during the day and then after 5pm on “Bear Alley” until dinner (normally from 9pm onwards). After dinner, the “Bear Village” gets busy and the party goes on until 3am each morning. Each night there are guest DJs, special performances, theme nights and more. Those looking to party after 3am should head to the official after parties in Organic! Those looking to cruise should check out Bunker and Bukkake!

How do I get to Sitges from the airport?

For those planning to come to the event for the first time, Sitges is easy to get to, just 30 minutes by Train from the International airport at El Prat, or 40 minutes by bus (the Mon bus leaves from the airport and drops you off at the centre of Sitges). A Taxi from the airport costs around EUR 70.

  • Check the Mon Bus Timetable here
  • Check the RENFE Train Timetable to Sitges here

Note, the last bus leaves from the airport at 23:50. The last train leaves at 23.38.  If you want to get to Sitges by bus after this time, the best thing to do is to take the Aero Bus to the city centre and then grab a city bus from Barcelona to Sitges. The Nightbuses are under a different name – they are not called MonBus and are simply given numbers N30, N31 or N32. They run from Plaza Catalunya. The night bus journey is shorter as it goes directly from Barcelona to Sitges, with the journey time lasting 35 minutes.

I need to change some money! And what about credit cards?

Our advice – change your money before you arrive! Most of the banks in Sitges no longer offer a “Bureau de Change” Service and those that do are very limited in what currencies they will accept! Sitges banks close at 2pm! ATMs are dotted across the village. Credit Cards are accepted almost universally, but are limited to Visa and Mastercard – AMEX is rarely accepted apart from the larger hotels.
