Spring Arrives in Sitges

Tourists have already begun arriving in Sitges by the time Easter comes around. The event marks the beginning of the Season with many bars reopening for the first time since Carnival. The bars, clubs and restaurants will all be busy during the week leading up to and the week of Easter. The traditional Palm Sunday and Good Friday parades are beautiful and poignant whatever your religion. The atmosphere is warm and relaxed as warm weather marks the return of the coming Season.

Traditional Catholic Parades

Easter traditions in Sitges include fasting and staying off meat. Many tapas bars cater for this and create delicious bacalao (cod) dishes, so no need to go hungry if you feel tempted.

On Palm Sunday, palm and laurel branches are blessed at around 12:00 in front of the City hall (Ayuntamiento) and the church of Sant Joan. A poignant and beautiful Good Friday procession starts at 22:00, taking the following route – Pl. Baluard, Mirador Miquel Utrillo, Fonollar, Baluard Vidal i Quadras, Port de n’Alegre, Rafel Llopart, Sant Damià, Sant Sebastià, Jesús, Sant Bartomeu, Sant Gaudenci, Sant Francesc, Cap de la Vila, C/. Major, Pl. Ajuntament y Pl. Baluard.
